Incisors Flashcards
Which one is larger? Mandibular lateral or central incisors
Lateral
Where is cingulum found and on which tooth
Bulge on the back, on all lingual surfaces of anterior teeth
What is the wear pattern on the incisal edge of maxillary and mandibular incisors
The wear is on the lingual surface for maxillary and the wear is on the labial surface for mandibular
How to differentiate between maxillary central and lateral incisor
- root to crown ratio, crown to root ratio is smaller in central
- Root is straighter in central
- Central incisors: the mesial incisal angle is 90deg
- Lateral incisors have a deeper but smaller fossa
Difference in cingulum between maxillary central and lateral incisors
Maxillary central incisors cingulum slightly distal
Maxillary lateral incisors cingulum more centred
Undulation of the cervical line
More undulation (ie more v shaped) at the mesial surface in anterior teeth
How to distinguish between maxillary and mandibular incisors
The mandibular is lingual inclined
Narrowest crown in the mouth
Mandibular central incisors
Shape of the crown of the mandibular lateral incisors
Fan shaped, not symmetrical, crown tilts distally on the root
How to distinguish right from left in a mandibular lateral incisor
Distoincisal edge is more curve
The distal side fans out
This tooth has the largest curvature of the mesial cervical line
Maxillary Central incisors
Do incisors have fossa/pits/grooves/cingulum
Upper incisors have pronounced cingulum and two ridges, one distal and mesial ridge, no grooves
Lateral incisors cingulum is more marked than central, associate with a deep pit
Lower incisors also have cingulum but not so pronounced. Flatly concave on the lingual surface
