Canines Flashcards
Describe the lingual surface of canines
Two fossae
Concave
Cingulum present , more centred in maxillary than in mandibular
In the middle of the two fossae there is a lingual ridge
How to differentiate left from right canine
The distal cusp slope is longer than the mesial cusp slope.
Mesial contact is located more incisally (ie lower towards the incisal edge)
Distal contact point is located at the centre of the middle third of the crown)
Where is the labial ridge
The labial surface is convex, middle region is heightened to a prominent ridge
What’s special about the canine
strongest and longest in dentition
Another name for mesial and distal borders?
Mesial cusp slope and distal cusp slope
Upper vs lower canines
Mandibular canines are more symmetrical
Labial surface is not as convex, more flat
The crown is lingual inclined
Root is angulated distally
Canine guidance vs group function
In canine guidance, the canines touch when eating, prevents molars from detrimental lateral forces
Group function, canines and premolars touch, not good for chewing
Which section is larger/ smaller for the upper canine
The distal section is larger than the mesial section
