What is meant by incarnation?
Incarnation means in the flesh and blood form, the ideal that God enters the human realm in the form of Jesus. Through a miraculous virgin birth Jesus confirms his divine nature
What do Christian’s believe about the incarnation? (4 points)
-It is the idea that God enters the human realm in the form of Jesus through a miraculous virgin birth
-Only God can deal with the consequences of sin by dying on the cross and beating death
-It means that God has experienced everything about being human except sin
-Jesus was truly man and truly God at the same time - a paradox. Jesus is part of the trinity, God the Son
Why is the Incarnation important for Christians today?
-It helps us to understand that Jesus wasn’t just a human but is actually God the son, it helps understand the NoG better, by knowing Jesus we know God
-Helps us see Jesus as the perfect example of a human, follow his actions to be the best we possibly can
-It gives us hope because God loved humanity so much he was willing to become one to show the depth of that love
-It shows ways to overcome sin, Jesus lived a perfect life, this gives us hope that we can share eternal life through God
-It gives us hope that sin and death aren’t the end at the we can all gain eternal union with God by overcoming our sins
How might beliefs about the incarnation affect Christians today?
-The would worship Jesus as God and ask for help and guidance in their lives
-Use images of Jesus as a focus for prayer and devotion
-In communion they would remember how Jesus died for their sins
-Look to Jesus’ words and actions as the best source of guidance for living
-They would feel God truly cares about people if he went to lengths of coming to earth as a human
-They may feel compelled to spread the good news about Jesus through missions
-Celebrate Christmas, God coming into the world
-Feel closer to God as he knows what it’s like to be fully human

-In Luke’s infancy narrative (Lk 1: 26-45) Jesus is shown to God the son through the annunciation by Gabriel and the angels message to the shepherds
-In the Baptism of Jesus (Mk 1: 1-13) God the fathers words about Jesus show that he is God the son
-In the calming of the storm (Mk 4: 35-41) Jesus shows that he is God the son by having power over nature
