What is incarnation?
The process of God (the son) being human in the person of Jesus - being made human
What is the annunciation?
When the angel Gabriel asked Mary to accept the role of the mother of the Son of God
What is the Birth of Jesus?
God the Son being born as a human
What does the Word was God mean?
The second Person of the Trinity, God the Son, who became flesh in Jesus
What does the word became flesh mean?
The Word of God took on human nature came down to earth to live as a full human being
What is the Son of man?
A title that could refer to either just a human being, or a human who is given power by God
What is the son of God?
Jesus was directly asked if he was the Son of God and he replied ‘I am’
What is the Ichthus?
A symbol of a fish, based on a Greek acronym that translates as ‘Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour’
What js the Alpha and Omega?
A symbol made from the first and last letter of the Greek alphabet showing God and Jesus are eternal
What is Chi Rho?
A symbol to represent Jesus, made up of the first two letters of his name in Greek
What is the Seemon on the Mount?
Jesus’ teachings found in Mathew 5-7, which give Christians a set of rules
What do the Beatitudes teach Catholics to do?
To Keep faithful to God’s teachings and he will reward you in heaven
What does the parable of the sheep and goats show?
Don’t be like a goat who ignores those in need of help and God will reward you
What does St Irenaeus shows Jesus as?
someone who is fully God and fully human
What does Dei Verbum show?
The word of God
What does Verbum Domini mean?
The word of the lord
What is Grace?
God’s free gift of his unconditional love to the believer
What are sacraments?
Rites and rituals where the believer receives a special gift of grace.
What is baptism?
The pouring of water to symbolise the cleansing of sins
What is confirmation?
The anointing of the forehead with chrism to symbolise receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit
What is the sacrament of Eucharist?
Receiving the bread and wine to show you are receiving the fullness of Christ
What is reconsilliation?
The laying on of hands to symbolise the passing on of God’s power of forgiveness
What is marriage?
The consent of each partner accepting the other person as husband/wife for life.
What is ordination?
The laying on of hands to sybolise conferring the dignity of the priesthood.
What is the sacrament of the sick?
The annointing of the head and hands with the oil of the sick to symbolise strengthening and forgiveness
What does imago dei mean?
Every human being is made in the image of God.
What is abortion?
The deliberate termination of a fetus
