Q

DSM-BIA

A

Trunk has low length, higher cross sectional area compared to arms but lowest oms (20-30).
However, trunk has 50% of our lean body mass so it has the largest amount of water and muscle.

Must be separately measured or we over/underestimate whole body muscle mass according to body type

Q

Importance of trunk

A

A 1-2 om difference in trunk impedance can create a great change in LBM

Q

What direction does current flow

A

Palm, trunk, to leg

Left arm measurement = currents flow left arm, trunk, to left leg

Q

Multi frequency

A

Multi frequency allows to distinguish between ICW and ECW and accurately measure TBW

Q

8 point tactile electrode with thumb electrode

A

99 % reproducibility with voltage measurements always starting at the same point of wrist and ankles

Q

Empirical estimations

A

Variables based on common knowledge accumulated throughout time

I.e

  • men have more muscle than woman
  • seniors have more fat mass than younger people
  • as we age limbs get thinner and trunk gets wider
