What are the three things to do initially coming to a scene?
Freeze, Control, Preserve
Explain “Freeze”
Keeping the scene in its original state and how it was left and found
Explain “Control” in Initial Approach to Scene
Control movement in and out of the scene, contain all activity in the area
Explain “Preserve”
All relevant exhibits need to be preserved that may be destroyed or start to decay
What are the Responsibilities of a Scene Guard?
U - Unauthorised people kept out
N - Note down details of anyone entering and leaving scene in notebook
B - Brief all authorised people of the routes, entry and exit
E - Eyes out for suspicious activity. Record and report
N - No contaminating or interfering with scene
T - Take all animals out of scene if possible that may interfere
What information must be considered on-route to scene as a Scene Guard?
- Details of what happened
- Description of Suspect
- People Authorised to Enter
- Scene Boundaries
- Designated Entry and Exit points
- What routes must Authorised Personnel take through the scene
What information needs to be obtained from an informant on arrival at a scene?
- Identify the victim and offender
- Description/details of any vehicles of interest
- Direction of travel
- Weapons
- Exact location of the scene
What is a CAP?
Common Approach Path
- A route for all movement into and out of the scene which avoids any possible routes taken by suspect or victim
