Improving Accuracy of EWT Flashcards
What type of interview is concerned with getting the most accurate EWT?
Cognitive interview.
What are the four techniques used in the cognitive interview?
1 - Change of narrative order.
2 - Change of perspective.
3 - (Mental) reinstatement of context.
4 - Report everything.
Give the statement for change of narrative order.
“Describe the event in reverse order”.
Give the statement for change of perspective.
“Describe the event as it would have been seen from a different person at the scene”.
Give the statement for mental reinstatement of context.
“Recall the scene, the weather sounds, visuals etc.”
How would you carry out a reinstatement of context?
Go back to the scene.
Give the statement for report everything.
“Report every detail you can, including what you were thinking or feeling, even if it seem irrelevant”.
What does the report everything help to do?
Create personal cues, internal (state cues).
What des the change of narrative technique do?
Gets rid of the schema that will try and make it make sense.
What does the change of perspective technique help do?
Notice different aspects, perhaps more details.
What has the change of perspective technique been removed in modern cognitive interviews?
Because the schema will largely interfere with this.
How many questions are asked in the standard interview?
Just one - “Tell me what you saw”.
In what way is the standard interview better than the cognitive interview?
Relatively quick whereas the cognitive interview is time consuming.
Which is more formal - the cognitive interview or the standard interview?
The cognitive is less formal.
What are two reasons that the cognitive interview is not used?
They are time consuming and underfunded.
For what technique might this be asked?
Please do not edit out anything from your report, even things you think may not be important.
Report everything.
For what technique might this be asked?
This about how you were feeling at the time and think about your reactions to the incident.
Report everything.
