implementing restoration Flashcards
What are the two stages of ER implementation?
- Remedial Restoration
2. Long term restoration
What is remedial restoration?
Initial phase that entails reducing stressors through major restoration treatments
-ex. prescribed burns, major invasive removal, major effort to plant native species
What are the benefits of Long term restoration?
Later phase that entails relatively minor restoration treatments
- ex. spot herbicides, smaller planting efforts
- aimed at MAINTAINING conditions acheived in remedial phase
Which is more expensive, remedial or long term?
remedial- more concentrated effort
What are examples of goals/ objectives of remedial restoration?
Goal: Reduce abundance of exotic species on site
Objective: Reduce ground cover of english ivy by 90%
What are examples of goals/objectives of long term?
Goal: Maintain the reduced abundance of english ivy
objective: maintain abundance of english ivy at less than 5%
What are two important parts about monitoring efforts?
- BASELINE DATA- should be collected before any restoration treatments
- REGULAR INTERVALS- monitoring efforts should be relatively frequent at set intervals…
- can let you know when to shift from Remediation to long term..
- identifies the effectiveness of your treatments and if they are addressing objectives and goals
- need for additional or revised treatments?
