What are different barriers to implementing evidence into practice?

A
  1. Characteristics of the recommendations
    - Facilitators: easy to follow and compatible with existing norms and values
    - Barriers: need for new skills and complexity of recommendations
  2. Characteristics of the adopters
    - Knowledge: lack of awareness of recommendation or that clinical practice may be inappropriate, over-estimation of self-reported performance etc…
    - Attitudes: doubts over credibility of source, perceived resistance of patients etc
    - Skills and abilities: over-reliance on trusted/convenient sources of information, confidence in skill set
  3. Characteristics of the organisation
  4. Characteristics of the environment
    FOR BOTH 3&4
    - Limitations and constraints: time, resources for equipment specified in recommendations, implementation efforts
    - Organisational culture: behaviour, actions and values that people are expected to follow
    - Social influence: team norms, influential peers
