Implants & Implant Restorations Flashcards

Q
What are the outcomes of posterior maxillary sinus perforation when creating osteotomies for implant placement?
A
Typically, entering the sinus is of little consequence and the penetrated site heals uneventfully. If perforation occurs, decrease depth of drills and place a shorter implant that does not enter the sinus. That said, locations where an implant is unintentionally placed in the sinus usually heal without incident. (EN “Using stops on implant drills”)
