Q

What is torquing movement of a tooth?

A

To move the root of the tooth through the bone by use of leverage on the crown. The tooth (especially root) pivots around an imaginary axis in the crown.

Q

Engagers are composite devices placed to increase the strength (not force required, but control delivered and probable success of movement) of forces delivered by clear aligners. What are the movement that are enhanced with vertical and horizontal engagers, respectively?

A

Torquing, tipping, rotation, translation.

Horizontal is for extrusion and intrusion.

Q

How much of a midline discrepancy can be corrected with clear aligners?

A

2-4mm… maybe. There’s a good chance the midline won’t be perfect. Don’t bring it up during treatment planning because most patients don’t know it’s off and won’t care that it’s off. If you talk about a problem, you’ve created a problem.
