Implants Flashcards
What is the minimum distance from the implant apex to the inferior alveolar nerve?
2 mm
What is the distance an implant body should be anterior to the mental foramen?
5 mm
At what temperature is there thermal necrosis?
47 degrees Celsius
Is there a classification system for bone density?
Lekholm described cortical to cancellous bone ratio. 4 types. Type 1 is mostly cortical bone, Type 2 slightly more cancellous bone, Type 3 is mostly cancellous bone and Type 4 is almost all cancellous with a thin cortex
Misch described bone density with Hounsfield units
Type 1: >1250
Type 2: 850-1250
Type 3: 350-850
Type 4: 150-350
Describe ISQ
implant stability quotient. 1-100. >70 high stability; 60-69 medium; <60 low stability
What are the three ways bone graft heals?
Osteoconduction, osteoinduction, osteogenesis
Give an example of an osteoconductive graft
Xenograft- provides scaffold only
Give an example of osteoinductive graft
Allograft or BMP. Induces host mesenchymal cells to differentiate
Give an example of an osteogenic graft
Autograft
What type of allograft do you use?
Nobel allogain mineralized corticocancellous freeze dried bone graft
What is the difference between demineralized bone graft and mineralized?
Demineralized bone graft has undergone processing to release the osteoinductive proteins (BMPs)
Is there a classification for bone loss?
Yes the Cawood and Howell classification
What is the Cawood and Howell classification?
6 classes. 1- dentate. 2- Immediately post extraction. 3- well rounded ridge, adequate in width and height. 4- Knife edged, Adequate in height but not width. 5- Flat ridge, inadequate in height and width. 6- Depressed ridge with basal bone loss
For sinus lifts, how far from the orbital floor is the ostium? Where does it drain in the nose?
Typically 25-35 mm from the sinus floor. Drains at the middle meatus
