Berlin Conference/Act
held by German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck to prevent chaos during the scramble for africa by setting in place rules and regulations. The act was signed and put in place these rules.

The Scramble for africa
A period where Africa had just been realized to contain much potential when it comes to exploiting it for resources. So, many countries from around the world took place in this event. Especially Great Britain, who used Africa to fuel their current industrial revolution.
The Battle of Adwa
A battle between The Ethiopian army of King Menilek II and Italy; happened in the midst of the scramble for africa. The Ethiopians won, causing independence for Ethiopia and prevented Italy from building a relevant empire in Africa.
David Livingstone
A Scottish missionary, doctor, abolitionist, and explorer during the mid 1800s. He was the main guy who wanted to bring “Christianity, Commerce, and Civilization” to Africa. He was part of three colonialization expeditions throughout the continent.
American Colonization Act
An act which sought to send free African-Americans to africa as an alternative to emancipation in the United States.
King Leopold II
Established the “congo free state” when he took control of an African landmass (the congo) as his own. Leopold privately owned the region, instead of having it as a colony.
Ethiopia/Liberia’s significance
The sole surviving African states during the scramble for africa that hadn’t been colonized
