What is imperialism???
When one country takes over another country
Direct colony
When officers were sent directly to the colonies to run them
Goal: to impose the countries culture on the colonists
Example:French
Indirect colony
Used local rulers to run the colonies and encouraged colonists children to be educated in the mother countries culture and education
Used military force if needed
Example: Britain
Protectorate
Local rulers were left in place but were expected to follow advice of European advisors and they must listen to advice on trade and missionary work
