In Canada, police officer’s who are trained in the DEC program are called Drug Recognition Evaluators (DRE).

o The DEC program recognizes seven separate categories of impairing compounds:
- Central nervous system (CNS) depressants– e.g. Alcohol, benzodiazepines
- CNS stimulants– e.g. Cocaine, methamphetamine
- Hallucinogens e.g. LSD
- Dissociative anesthetics e.g. Ketamine
- Narcotic analgesics e.g. Morphine
- Inhalants e.g. Volatile solvents
- Cannabis
