IMPACT OF ICT ON INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND SOCIETY Flashcards
positive effects of ICT
Improve access to education
access to information and communication
security
Negative effects of ICT
Reduce personal interaction and physical activity
job loss and increase in unemployment
Security
New learning methods, like Learning Management System (LMS), offer
educational improvements such as distance learning, online tutorials, virtual
reality, and interactive multimedia.
improve access to education
The internet is widely used for communication, accessible in various places
like commercial establishments and public spaces. New tools like VoIP
phones, instant messaging, video chat, and email have been promoted.
Additionally, ICT is utilized for leisure activities such as watching movies,
playing games, reading news, and forming relationship with people
worldwide.
ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
With ICT advancements, individuals and organizations can address security
concerns effectively. Examples of security measures in applications include:
(1) encryption methods to safeguard data from malicious software, (2)
password usage for personal information protection, and (3) implementation
of physical security system like biometrics such as fingerprint, facial
recognition, iris(eye) recognition, and voice recognition.
SECURITY
Virtual communication has led to a decrease in face-to-face interactions among people.
Paradoxically, the convenience of working from home and the entertainment provided by
the internet, like streaming movies and playing online games, often results in reduced
physical activity, leading to health problems such as obesity and heart disease
REDUCED PERSONAL INTERACTION AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
This can be considered as one of the worst effect in ICT.
* Multiple workers being replaced and reduced by a smaller number of employees
capable of doing the same volume of tasks.
* Shipping or freight services in which a certain amount is added to the operating costs for
the physical process of transporting commodities or goods.
* Automation through robots or machines replacing people in the assembly line.
JOB LOSS OR INCREASE IN UNEMPLOYMENT
Indeed, while ICT brings significant improvements, it also poses security
threats. It’s crucial to keep data and files secure, protecting internet
connections from various attacks like data modifications, identity/IP address
spoofing, password-based attacks, denial-of-service, etc. Additionally,
computers must be safeguarded from viruses and malware, which are
constantly released.
SECURITY
What are the ethical issues in ICT?
- PLAGIARISM
- EXPLOITATION
- LIBEL
- Software Piracy;
When someone steals ideas, words, or writings from others and presents them as their own, leading to
serious legal and ethical consequences.
- PLAGIARISM
The described action involves dealing with someone dishonesty and unethically to take advantage of
their work or resources, leading to unlawful behavior.
- EXPLOITATION
Involves making false and damaging statements about someone, whether spoken, written, or through
actions, without any evidence to support the accusations.
- LIBEL
involves installing or copying software onto a computer without permission from
end-user licensing agreement (EULA) and/or creating copies in violation of copyrights.
