    Oily water Separator

c) Describe the principle of operation of the equipment named in b)
Bilge water is contained in the bilge holding tank where is it is heated
The bilge water is passed through an oily water separator fitted with:
• Oil sensing probe and monitor
• Coalescing filters and polishing pack
• Automatic recirculation of discharge (3-way valve)
Water is passed through the oily water separator where oil is removed in two stages
Oil is accumulated and discharged to the waste oil tank whilst clean water of less than 15PPM oil passes through the
monitoring equipment and overboard
If discharge water exceeds 15PPM it is automatically recalculated to, the bilge holding tank and an alarm sounds
