Immunology Flashcards
1
Q
Describe the innate immune system?
A
Non specific
Distinguish between human cell & pathogen but not between different types of pathogen.
Fast & immediate first to come into play
No memory so will produce the same response
2
Q
Describe the Adaptive immune response?
A
Highly specific
Distinguish between different pathogens based on shapes on the surface-called antigen.
Slower: can take a few days to develop
Immunological memory: memory cells remember
3
Q
What are the components of the innate immune system?
A
Cellular- Phagocytes(Neutrophils and Monocytes), Eosinophils, Mast Cells, Basophils
Humoral- Complement and Cytokines
4
Q
What are the types of Phagocytes and their function?
A
Neutrophil
