Immunology Flashcards
What is monocytes?
Police, makes macrophages which is the big boss. The little policemen is the phagocytes. Macrophages engulf the virus
What is the first WBC that responded to the inflammatory sites?
Neutrophils which consist of 50-70% of the WBC. Makes a lot of immature baby banner, cause a shift to the left bc they can’t fight during inflammation.
What is the primary immune response?
First time exposure to the antigen. Takes about 7 days to make the antibodies after first exposure. When formation of memory cells
What is the secondary immune response?
Additional exposure to the antigen. The memory cells kick in and respond more rapidly
What the purpose of vaccine?
Predispose body so antibody can develop it. If the body expose to same antigen that’s in the virus, it will react faster
Where do the cells mature at?
The thymus where they come out with antigen specific receptor
Clonal diversity
Producing large amount of T and B cells that have the capacity to recognize any foreign antigen
Cortisol
Acts on carbohydrates metabolism results in increase blood glucose levels which energize the body to combat the stressor
Epinephrine
Enhancing myocardial contractility. Increase heart rate and blood pressure
Also dilate blood vessels
Epinephrine
Release during stress
Regulate Bp? Promote arousal and increase vigilance anxiety and other emotion
What other hormone is release during stress?
Endorphins-blocks pain
Growth hormones-growth and repair
Testosterone - build muscle
Estrogen–calming effect
Autoimmunity
Immune response against self-antigen to the point that it start to attack it’s own tissue
Alloimunity
Immunological response against transfusion
