Immunology Flashcards
What are the 5 types of antibodies
IgA IgE IgD IgG IgM ACRONYME: G A M E D
IgA
protects mucous membrane (GI tract and the respiratory tract). There are traces of IgA found in babies due to it transmitting through the breast milk
IgE
mast cells and basophils for parasitic infections. they also are involved in allergies
IgD
surfaces on the B cells. maturation and antigen recognition
IgG
most abundant and protects from toxins and crosses the placenta to the baby
IgM
larges immunoglobulin. in the bloodstream and first to react to antigen
neutrophils
most abundant. protect mainly against bacteria. are functioned to be phagocytes
Eosinophils
contain toxic granules so they protect against parasites
basophils
contains granules of histamine that causes inflammation
lymphocytes
t&b cells that are involved in specific immunity and NK cells involved in nonspecific immunity
monocytes
phagocytes as well as kill infected cells. they leave the bloodstream and become macrophages or dendritic cells
