Immunology 01- Innate imunology- inflammation Flashcards
def. inflammatory response
response to any damage to tissue
visible signs of inflammatory response
area becomes red, warm and swollen
major function of the inflammatory response
to disinfect and clean injured issue
2nd role of inflammatory response
help prevent the spread of infection to surrounding tissue
inflammation can systemically be
localised or widespread
widespread inflammation
microorganisms such as bacteria or protozoans get into the blood or release toxins that are carried throughout the body in the bloodstream
response to systemic infection
abnormally high fever, elevated white cell count
how do anti-inflammatory drugs work, e.g. of drugs
aspirin, ibuprofen, dampen the normal inflammatory response and help reduce the swelling and fever
def. septic shock + characterisation
sometimes bacterial infections bring about an overwhelming systemic inflammatory response ; char by very high fever and low blood pressure
Why is the inflammatory response considered a form of innate immunity?
Because the response is the same regardless wether the invader has been previously encountered or not.
