Immunity in pregnancy Flashcards

Q

How does deficiency in nutrients impact both the fetus and the mom

A

does not necessarily impact the fetus but may deplete the woman’s stores so that she is prone to delayed healing and increased infection following birth. paying to nutrition could protect her from beginning motherhood in a compromised state

Q

how does a lack of sleep affect our immunity, especially in the postpartum

A

there is a direct link between the innate immune system and sleep. sleep will contribute to the woman’s uneventful recovery. wound healing is predominantly an anabolic process. sleep disturbances may inhibit wound healing as sleep encourages anabolism, the synthesis of complex molecules from simple ones
