how to prevent HIV
offer all pregnant women HIV counseling and voluntary testing
treat with antiretroviral drug if positive

weakness
leg and back pain
abnormal gait in younger children
sensory loss
decreased deep tendon reflex
bowel or urinary incontinence
autonomic dysfuntion (hypotension)
creanial nerve involvement 30-40% or cases
respiratory paralysis occurs in 20-30%
progress days to weeks
allergy and anaphylaxis
immune mediated response
adverse physiologic event or reaction
allergic response is determined by
duration
rate
amount of exposure
enviornmental and host factor
what is anaphylaxis
acute response to an allergn
starts withing 5-10 min of exposure (delayed reaction possible)
involves many organ systems- life threatening
leading causes and anaphylaxis
nuts, shelfish, eggs
bee or wasp
penicillin and NSAID
padiopaque dues and lates
how to use epipen
- pull off blue safety cap
- position orange end about 10cm away from outer mid thigh
- swing and jab orange tip into thigh at 90 degree angle and hold in place for 10 sec
- remove epipen. massage injection site for 10 sec
latex allergy
response to exposure to latex
immediate allergic reaction
can result in anaphylaxis
