Q

Functions and location of H1 receptors

A

Histamine 1 receptors:

  1. Vasodilation
  2. Bronchoconstriction
  3. Increased capillary permeability

These receptors are found in the skin, face, and upper abdomen

Q

H2 receptors

A

These receptors are found in the stomach and when stimulated they increase gastric secretions

Q

Describe in detail how histamine is released in an allergic reaction

A

When an antigen finds its way into the body, there is a release of IgE antibodies that bind to Mast cells. When this antigen is encountered by this “primed” Mast cell there is a release of Histamine.
