Tough waterproof outer layer composed of dead skin cells, keratin and oily sebum

Contains lysozyme - digests bacterial cell walls

A
Bacteria becomes trapped in the mucus and are swept away by cilia

This is found in the stomach and it kills many bacteria, low pH denatures the bacterial enzymes
