Immune System Flashcards
Innate immune response
Quick and general
First line of defence
Skin stops most pathogens from getting in. Lining from all internal organs and swear and oil prevents pathogens growing
Inflammation
A flow of liquid, cells, and more to the infected area which causes a fever, swelling and redness.
Phagocytes
White blood cells that swallow invaders
What is the Acquired immune response
A highly specific attack on a certain pathogen or antigen
Recognition
White blood cells recognize pathogen and signals T cells which signal for B cells to help
Mobilization
B cells produce antibodies to fight pathogen
Disposal
Antibodies destroy pathogen
Immunity
Memory B cells gather info to use against future infections
What are killer T cells
They work independently and directly destroy pathogens
Vaccines
Weakened version of an antigen
