Immune Modulators Flashcards
What is interferons
Substances naturally produced and released by human cells that have been invaded by viruses
How interferons work
1-Prevent virus particles from replicating inside the cell
2- stimulate interferons receptor site on non invaded cell to produce antiviral protein
3-inhibit tumor growth and replication ,to stimulate cytotoxic T cell activity
The indication of interferons alpha 2 b
Treatment of leukemias,sarcomas,warts,hepatitis B,hepatitis C
Side effect of interferons
Flu like syndrome
Photosensitivity,liver impairment
How interleukin 2 work
Produced by various lymphocytes to activate cellular immunity and inhibit tumor growth by increasing lymphocyte number and their activity
Used to treat specific renal carcinoma and treatment of AIDS:
Cyclosporine
Interferons Alfa 2b
aldesleukin
C
Some side effect of interleukin:
Flu like effects
Cardiac arrhythmias
Severe hypersensitivity reactions
Difficulty breathing
Chest tightness
All of above
Immune suppressant conjunction with
Corticosteroids
How T and B cell suppressors works
Block antibody production by B cell ,inhibit suppressor and helper T cell, modify release interleukin and T cell growth factor
Some side effect of T and B cell suppressor
Increase risk of infection and development of neoplasia.
Hepatotoxicity,renal toxcity,pulmonary edema
Anakinra antagonizes …..
Human interleukin 1 receptor ,block activity of interleukin 1
Side effect of interleukin receptor antagonist
Upper respiratory and other infection, injection site reaction
The first monoclonal antibody is
Muromonab CD3
Indication of monoclonal antibody
1- treatment of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia
2- renal transplant rejection
3- sign and symptoms of chronic disease
Side effect of monocolonal antibody
Acute pulmonary edema ,flu like symptoms, increase susceptibility to infection
