Immune Flashcards
When would a child with Immune Thrombocytopenia require treatment?
Platelet count <10 x10^9/L
No active bleeding
What advice would you give a patient and their parents if they have a non-severe ITP?
80% of patients do have full resolution of the ITP with or without treatment. Advice to avoid any trauma is crucial and safety net.
What is Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP)?
Immune thrombocytopenia is when antibodies are created against the glycoprotein IIb/IIIa or Ib-V-IX complex. This leads to an immune mediated reduction in platelet count and is an example of a type 2 hypersensitivity reaction.
What can rhesus incompatibility syndrome cause?
Haemolysis
Severe hyperbilirubinaemia (leading to jaundice)
Anaemia
