-Britan, USA, and some countries in Europe.
-Europe was overcrowded and farmland & industrial jobs weren’t available for everyone
-minorites were mistreated (in some counties)
What was the “ideal” immigrants and why?
British foreigners bc they were English speaking and shared the same culture
How were Canadian immigration policies discrimatory?
-The government defied anyone who was not Britan-foreign
-during WW1, anti German attitudes were prominent and directed at immigrants
-Canada’s “ideal” immigrants were people from Britain or British colonies
How were/are immigrants vitally important in the development of Canada?
-immigrants brought their culture/traditions that are now woven into daily life
-Canada’s pride for being diverse
-Recognition was needed for immigrants to sustain society and economy
What province did immigrants arriving in boats first stopped in?
Nova Scotia
What did the Immigration Act of 1910 result in?
Expanded government power over who could/could not enter Canada
