4 key actions for good maxillary impression
- Ask patient to make suction around finger/tray handle
- Suction around finger again (pucker) and create maximum smile line
- open their mouth wide and then move their mandible side to side to stretch the pterygomandibular raphe and allow the coronoid processes to shape the impression
- Find area between hard/soft palate and vibrating line
How do you mark hard/soft palate?
Pinch patient nostrils and tell them to blow out their nose while keeping tongue pushed down
How to mark vibrating line?
Have pt say “ah” or cough
5 actions to create good mandibular impression
- Suction on finger
- Pucker than maximum smile line
- Say “christmas” and letters “Q” and “U” and pull lip superiorly over impression tray
- Have pt close against resistance in 1sec intervals
- Raise tongue to roof of mouth, vermillion border, commissure of lips
