Accounting for plateaus in heating curves
A
Molecules of substance are changing from one phase to another. Energy supplied by the heat is used to overcome the intermolecular forces holding the substance together, rather than to increase the kinetic energy of the particles. Temperature won’t increase until the gaseous phase is reached
