Imaging Flashcards
List some common Imaging Modalities
CT X-Ray Angiography Ultrasound MRI Nuclear Medicine
X-Ray
2d. 2-4 mm. Small amount of Radiation. Cheap.
PROBLEM: All organ/fluid looks the same(organs, tumors, fluid, etc.)
Ultrasound
2D sound wave reflection. 2-4 mm. No radiation. Cheap.
PROBLEMS: Areas with bone(brain) or lots of air (lungs, abdomen) are hard to visualize
Angiography
X-Ray with intravascular contrast. Visualize to
CT (+/- Contrast)
3D x-Ray. See to
Nuclear Medicine
Administration of radiation emitting material with subsequent scanning for emission.
PROBLEMS: Radiation, low clarity, and expensive
MRI
3D. Can see down to
What populations (4) are at the highest risk from general imaging?
Young
Female (Breast)
Pregnant
Renal Dysfunction
Incidentalomas
Minor abnormalities that show up on testing that would not effect patient outcome
