Types of Imagery
Visual Imagery (Sight)
Definition: Describes what something looks like, focusing on colors, shapes, sizes, and appearance.
Example: “The golden sun sank slowly behind the mountains, casting a warm glow across the sky.”
This appeals to the sense of sight, helping the reader visualize the sunset.
Auditory Imagery (Sound)
Definition: Describes sounds that can be heard, such as voices, music, or natural sounds.
Example: “The distant roar of thunder echoed across the valley, signaling the storm’s arrival.”
This appeals to the sense of hearing, helping the reader imagine the sound of thunder.
Tactile Imagery (Touch)
Definition: Describes physical sensations such as texture, temperature, and how something feels.

This appeals to the sense of touch, making the reader feel the roughness of the tree bark.
Gustatory Imagery (Taste)
Definition: Describes flavors or tastes, such as sweet, sour, bitter, or spicy.

Olfactory Imagery (Smell)
