Image noise Flashcards
what is image noise
random variation of brightness or colour information in images
Gaussian noise
caused by thermal agitation which is caused by the movement of electrons
Uniform noise
not often encountered in the real world
Impulse noise
aka salt and pepper noise. creates white and black dots resembling salt and pepper
–> remove using a median filter
Sensor pattern noise: shot noise
due to random fluctuations in photon energy captured by the sensor
Sensor pattern noise: Readout noise
electric charge built up with in the onboard processes which leaves random noise
PRNU
Photo Response Non Uniformity
pattern produced is consistent and unique to the image sensor.
build an “exemplar print” to compare to the “latent print”
