Q

What is penumbra?

A

penumbra is image sharpness caused by photons

the photons from different origins converge to a single spot on the anatomy, then diverge from that point as they pass from anatomy to film, creating multiple shadows of the exact same anatomy in slightly different places on the film creating the fuzzy boarders

Q

what is the answer you get with the mAs formula used for?

A

it is the new mAs you will use in the X-ray suite. it is a more direct way of using the theory of inverse square law to obtain a useful answer

Q

Size distortion is always in the form of what?

A

always in the form of magnification enlargement

magnification is due to divergent beam

decreasing SID or increasing OID will cause greater magnification distortion

16
Q

What is shape distortion

A

the result of unequal magnification of the actual shape of the structure

17
Q

if you increase the OID of one end of a bone?

A

it will appear fatter and foreshortened as compared to the non altered end of the bone

18
Q

when the xray tube is angled and the object and film are parallel to each other?

A

unequal magnification creates shape distortion in the form of elongation of the image
