goal-directed coping and self-efficacy to exercise such skills

- Emphasis is on self-management (i.e., taking responsibility and learning about condition)
- Partnership between service providers and recipients (i.e., collaboration v subservience)
- Information acquired must be implemented through effective coping skills and behavior (i.e., implementing and following plans made)
