what is ischaemic heart disease?
A
- narrowing of the lumen of the coronary arteries
- imbalance between supply of oxygen and nutrients and myocardial demand
- myocardial ischaemia and chest pain

What is atheromatous disease?
A
- an atheroma is the reversible accumulation of degenerative material in the inner layer of an artery wall
- material consists of macrophage cells, debris, lipids…
- a tear in the artery wall results in the deposition of fatty material
- narrowed artery can become blocked by a blood clot
