IFR UH-72 Flashcards
Inadvertent IMC TASK 1184
AAHTTAAA
Announce IMC - maintain proper aircraft control and immediately make the transition to instrument flight, and initiate immediate Climb
Attitude - level the wings and pitch attitude
Heading - maintian heading; turn only to avoid known obstacles
Torque - adjust torque to cruise or climb power setting (8 FLI)
Trim
Airspeed (65 KIAS)
Altitude (3500)
Contact ATC on guard (121.5) squawk (7700), position, altitude, heading, fuel on board in time, souls on board, request vectors to VMC and/or nearest instrument approach

Upper Modes
Brief the Plate, Brief TO/Landing
Full scale deflection on GPS AIM 1-1-17 5e
Enroute 2nm (auto set, can be 5nm)
Terminal 1nm
Final 0.3nm
Missed 1nm
Enroute is over 30nm from the ARP (Airport Reference Point)
Terminal after the IAWP (Initial Approach Waypoint) or within 30 nm of ARP
Final is within 2nm of FAWP (Final Approach Waypoint) or in-between the IF and FAF.
Full scale deflection on ILS and VOR?
ILS 2.5°
VOR 10° (one dot 5°)
What must exist to descend below MDA or DA? 95-1 5-5d.
The approach end of the runway or landing area must be visible to the pilot
The aircraft must be in a position from which a safe approach to the runway or landing area can be made
What are the Five T’s?
- Time
- Turn
- Tune
- Torque
- Talk
What order should position reports be given? (AIM 5-3-2, 5-3-3)

Supplemental information
What are the mandatory reports? (AIM 5-3-2, 5-3-3)
X MATHCELLS C3
WX unforecasted weather
Missed approach
Altitude changes while VFR-on-top
True airspeed changes ±10 kts or 5% (greater)
Holds Time and Altitude, leaving and entering (omitted when IFR training at military terminal are facilities)
Cannot maintain 500 FPM climb/descent
End of clearance limit
Leaving assigned altitude
Loss of comm, navigation, equipment
Safety of flight
“RADAR contact lost” or “RADAR contact terminated”
Compulsory reporting points
Crossing FAF
Change of ETA ±2 minutes on ETA
Weather minimums required for takeoff?
95-1 if an aviator has logged more than 50 hours of actual weather time as PC there are no takeoff minimums
95-1 Helicopters ceiling 100 feet visibility 1/4 sm or 1200 RVR
The FOP states in no instance will a takeoff be attempted if the departure field’s observed weather is lower than minimums for the expected approach to be flown in the event an immediate landing is required at that field.
Cairns = ceiling 200 feet visibility 1/4sm or 1200 RVR
In IMC the normally used terms as described in Section 3 “LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE” and “… IMMEDIATELY” are both defined as follows:
1) Try to reach VMC and continue in accordance with visual flight rules.
2) If VFR is not possible, land at the nearest IFR airfield with a published instrument approach.
The term “LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE” remains unchanged.
Vertical Speed Limitation
1500 ft/min
Min forward speed in IFR and min airspeed for IFR approach
60kts and 70kts
Max airspeed for hands-on operation in cruise following a failure
120 kts
Max airspeed for hands-on operation in ILS/GLS approach following a failure
100 kts
Minimum airspeed during IFR and minimum airspeed for IFR approach (RFM 9.2-8-7)
60 kts and 70 kts
