Q

Weather minimums required for takeoff?

A

95-1 if an aviator has logged more than 50 hours of actual weather time as PC there are no takeoff minimums

95-1 Helicopters ceiling 100 feet visibility 1/4 sm or 1200 RVR

The FOP states in no instance will a takeoff be attempted if the departure field’s observed weather is lower than minimums for the expected approach to be flown in the event an immediate landing is required at that field.

Cairns = ceiling 200 feet visibility 1/4sm or 1200 RVR

Q

In IMC the normally used terms as described in Section 3 “LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE” and “… IMMEDIATELY” are both defined as follows:

A

1) Try to reach VMC and continue in accordance with visual flight rules.

2) If VFR is not possible, land at the nearest IFR airfield with a published instrument approach.

The term “LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE” remains unchanged.

In IMC the normally used terms as described in sections 3 of basic flight normal “LAND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE” and “… IMMEDIATELY” are both defined as follows:

A

Try to reach VMC and continue in accordance with visual flight rules.

If VFR is not possible, land at the nearest IFR airfield with a published instrument approach.

The term “LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE” remains unchanged.

18
Q

Maximum airspeed limitations with AFCS

A

Maneuvering approach VMC: 120 KIAS
Climb, Cruise, Descent VMC: 100 KIAS or 120 KIAS when flying attentively

Maneuvering approach IMC: 100 KIAS
Climb, Cruise, Descent IMC: 80 KIAS or 100 KIAS when flying attentively

19
Q

Minimum airspeed with IAS mode and ALT mode engaged

A

30 KIAS

In ALT mode below 80 KIAS the airspeed indicator shall be monitored closely

20
Q

23
Q

What’s the “1-3-6” Rule for IFR Flight Planning?

A

1) File destination Airport. W
WX. Predominate forecast. ETA + 1hr. The military planning minimums for the approach.

3) Need an Alternate IF…. WRN
WX. Predominate forecast. ETA + 1hr. 400/1 above military planning minimums for the approach.
Radar required for the approach
NAVAIDs unmonitored.

6) Alternate may not be used IF…. WRN GAG
WX. WORST WX. ETA + 1hr. 400/1 above military planning minimums for the approach.
Radar required for the approach
NAVAIDs unmonitored.
GPS is required for the approach (TSO 146, omitted but must plan for LNAV)
Approach labeled A/NA
G Airspace. If class BCD or E does not exist or is not in effect.

VFR Exception Rule
3 and 6 can be overridden if the descent, the approach, and the landing can be made in VFR conditions from the en route minimum altitude for IFR operations.

24
Q

When going missed what is the sequence of events?

A

CHAOS

Climb - 8 on the FLI right away
Heading - maintain until executing MAP
Altitude - MAP
OBS - Unsuspend
Systems - CDI NMS, VOR, COURSE

Radio call

25
Q

What weather is required for an approach to be initiated?

A

AR 95-1 says an approach may be initiated, regardless of ceiling and visibility

Our FOP AR 95-20 states: in no instance shall an approach be commenced if the observed weather at the destination airfield is lower than the minimums for the approach to be flown.
