What is ITP
A
Condition with spontaneous low platelet count causing a purpuric non-blanching rash. Production of antibodies which target and destroy platelets

What type of reaction is ITP
A
Type 2 hypersensitivity

Presentation of ITP
A
Bleeding, bruising and petechial or purpuric rash. Often history of recent viral illess

Age of presentation of ITP
A
Usually in children under 10 years

Management of ITP
A
Prednisolone, IV immunoglobulins, blood transfusions if required and platelet transfusions which only work temporarily

Complications of ITP
A
Chronic ITP, anaemia, intracranial and subarachnoid haemorrhage, GI bleeding
