What is Idiopathic intracranial HTN? and RF?
A
a condition resulting in raised ICP without cause
can be acute or chronic
not a dangerous ICP raise, without neuro sx, or ventricule changes
nearly always in young women, obese or with new weigth gain
other RF-
COCP, steroids
Pregnancy
(all weight gain )
tetracyclines

Sx and Ix of idiopathic cranial hTN
A
Headache!- one that sounds like ICP (morning, straining, etc)
vision changes-loss of visual field, increased blind spot
exam- Papilloedemoa or just disc swelling

Mx of Idiopathic cranial HTn
A
WEIGHT loss- usually main mx
diuretics-acetolozamide
Topiomerates can be used and cause weight loss- :D
can do repeat LP’s or surgery ifneeded
