Idiomatic Expression
“Figurative Language”
-word or phrase that is used
to mean something different from its
literal meaning
Sentence
-group of words that expresses a
complete thought
- It typically contains a subject and a
predicate
Subject
-tells us who or what the sentence
is about
- typically a noun or a pronoun
and is the main focus of the
sentence
Predicate
-provides information about the
subject
-includes the verb and any other
words that modify or complete the
action or state of the subject
Declarative Sentence
-to convey information, share
thoughts or opinions, or provide
descriptions.
-Straightforward and do not require a
response or action from the listener or
reader
Interrogative Sentence
-asks a question and is used to
seek information, clarification, or to
engage in conversation.
-It typically ends with a question
mark.
Imperative Sentence
-gives a command, makes a request,
or expresses a directive.
-It is used to tell someone to do
something or to give instructions.
-It typically ends with a period or an
exclamation mark
Exclamatory Sentence
-expresses strong emotion, excitement,
surprise, or emphasis
-convey a strong feeling or
reaction
-typically ends with an exclamation
mark
Fragment
- an incomplete sentence that
lacks a subject, a verb, or both - It does not express a complete
thought
POINTS OF VIEW
It is the angle from which the story is
told or the information comes
First POV
-pronouns such as I, me, my,
mine, we, us, and ours.

2nd POV
narrator directly addresses the
reader or a specific character as
“you.
Third POV
uses the pronouns he, him, his,
she, her, hers, it, its, one, one’s,
them, they, their, and theirs
Third POV
-uses the pronouns he, him, his,
she, her, hers, it, its, one, one’s,
them, they, their, and theirs
Affixes
-These are letters that cannot stand
alone.
-They need a root word also known as
the base word to form a new word.
