Commonly known as the “father of liberalism”, John Locke believed that humans are rational and good because they were created by god.
He also believed that humans are all equal for this same reason. God has legitimate authority since he is our creator. But no human has authority over another. Humans still come into conflict so they do need government, but very limited. The government only exists to help humans. If the government becomes tyrannical, the people can overpower and destroy it.
