What is an ideology?
Coherent set of beliefs or values that guide ones actions, most parties are subscribed to an ideology, e.g. Labour was established on socialist lines
What is an ideologue?
A person who is strongly committed to one body of ideas/values
Where did the political spectrum originate?
Revolutionary France
Authoritarian
An approach that favours strict obedience
Libertarian
Favours civil liberties and the rights of the individual over the authority of the state
What does ‘rolling back the frontiers of the state’?
Margaret Thatcher
Means less involvement between state and people- doing less
Max Stirner in 1845 with ‘The Ego and its own’
Championed the importance of the individual and attacked authoritarian forms of gov, Stirner is said to have inspired anarchists on the left
What are party families?
Parties who have similar ideologies in different countries
