Define identity.
How we see and define ourselves and how other people see and define us.
Give an example of identity.
One may define themselves as Welsh, Muslim, a teacher, and a woman.
Define sex.
Whether someone is male or female, refers to biological differences between men and women, such as genitals and internal reproductive organs.
Define gender.
Whether someone is masculine or feminine. Refers to cultural socially constructed differences between the two sexes. The way society encourages and teaches the two sexes to behave in different ways.
Define gender role.
The pattern of behaviour and activity which society expects from individuals of either sex.
Give an example of a gender role.
Women being expected to be house wives and men being expected to provide for the household financially.
