IDENTIFYING THE INQUIRY AND STATING THE PROBLEM - Chapter 1 Flashcards
usual contents of a research title
Research Variables (IV, DV, MeV, MoV), Subject or Object of Test, Testing/Measurement, Design
research title tips
- para magets
- brief, simple, catchy, leading
- wag na yung “a study on”
- avoid “the” “a/an”
-indicated kung aling type/specific part/aqueous etc
background of the study
A brief outline of the important studies
presented in a chronological order
❑ May include any of the following: (a) a
review of the area being researched; (b)
current information surrounding the issue;
(c) previous studies on the issue and (d)
relevant history on the issue. gaps, etc
- must include Discussion of the problem (macro to micro
approach)
❑ Concepts and ideas related to the problem
❑ Discussion of the existing or present
conditions
statement of the problem
Presents the questions that will
be answered in order to solve the
problem; foundation of research
- Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Result-driven, Timebound
good research problems
- Supporting data that will help build up the
information necessary for the conclusion - Production of meaning
- Questions that can be subjected to hypothesis testing
What are not research problem/ questions?
- Questions that are asked for achieving self
enlightenment or solving a personal problem - Problems whose sole purpose is to merely
compare two (2) sets of data - Problems that result in Yes or No answers
- Those that deals with moral or ethical
questions - Questions that do not require a mental
struggle - When machine can take the place of
the researcher to provide answers to
questions. - Metaphysical questions where it is
impossible to collect publicly verifiable
data and information.
2 elements of SOP
- objective/main problem - present the primary objective of the research undertaking (Title Based).
- research questions/ specific questions - points out the details of the research questions to be answered.
types of research question
- Descriptive
- Relationship
- Comparative
- Causality
scope and limitation
- SCOPE- the coverage of the study; subjects, title frame, objectives
- LIMITATIONS - citing factors or variables that are not included and the boundaries of the study; sampling problems, uncontrolled variables, approach
importance of research questions
- Guide your literature search
- Guide you in deciding what data you need to gather
- Guide your analysis of data
- Guide your data presentation (write-up)
- Stop you from going off in
unnecessary directions and tangents
Importance of a clear scope and limitations
- To have definite boundaries and clear coverage of the things that will be tackled in
the study - It helps the researchers to design the Methodology of the study
significance of the study
Defines who will benefit out of the findings of the study
- Contributions may be viewed from the
point of the target beneficiaries like the
researcher himself, service providers, client,
implementors, the community, etc.
- macro to micro
