Identify Functions Of The Nose, Naospharynx, Mouth, Oropharynx, Larynx, Trachea, Bronchi And Alveoil. Flashcards
Function of the nose.
Main route of air entry into respiratory system, nose hairs filter by catching and trapping particles - in nasal cavity, air is warmed, moistened.
Function of the pharynx.
Involved in both respiratory and digestive systems: air passes through nasopharynx and oropharynx into the larynx - food passes through oropharynx and laryngopharynx into the oesophagus.
Function of nasopharynx.
Passageway for air.
Function of oropharynx.
Passageway for air and food.
Function of larynx.
Speech – vocal cords in the larynx - allow air to pass into lungs - blocks food and drink from entering.
Function of trachea.
Pathway for O2 to enter body, transports air to and from lungs, moistens and warms air while it passes into lungs.
Function of bronchi.
Passageway for O2 to travel to alveoli.
Function of alveoli.
Gas exchange – O2 breathed in from air passes through alveoli and into blood – then travels to tissues throughout the body.
Function of mouth.
Secondary external opening for respiratory system.
