identification rxn Flashcards
Cr₂O₇²⁻/H⁺ and primary alcohol
orange to green- oxidize into carboxylic acid
Alkane and aqueous soloution
insoluble- two layers
Amine and aqueous soloution
soluble- dissolve- one layer
KMNO₄⁻/H⁺ and primary alcohol
oxidize into carboxylic acid- purple to brown (if acidified), purple to colorless if not
Alkene and Br₂(aq)
react quickly orange/brown to colourless ( addition rxn)
Alcohol and Br2(aq)
react slowly with UV light as a catalyst
Alcohol up to 4 and water
soluble/ polar
Alkene and aqueous soloution
insoluble, non polar- two layers formed
Ethanol vs propan-1-ol (Boiling points)
Ethanol has a lower boiling point and will vaporize quicker. As alcohol molecules lengthen the attractive forces between them become stronger.
Carboxylic acid + Br₂ (aq)
slowly with UV light as a catalyst (subsititution)
Alkene and KMNO₄-/H+ or KMNO₄
Purple to brown (addition) - purple to colourless (acified) (oxidation)
Carboxylic acid and KMnO₄-
no reaction
Alkane and Br₂ (Aq)
slow reaction- catalyzed by Uv light - substitution + HBR
Amine and zinc metal
no reaction
Carboxylic acid and Zinc Metal
bubbles- gas hydrodgen gas
