Identification Of Positive Ions Flame Test Flashcards
Which group can be identified using flame test (salts)
Group 1 and group 2
Why do different salt have different colour in a flame test
The electrons have different energy shell getting excited and promoted to an unoccupied energy level. When the electrons return to their original energy level they release energy in the form of light
Explain method for flame test
1) Clean your nichrome or platinum wire with hydrochloric acid then place it into a Bunsen burner flame
2) Repeat step 1 till there isn’t a a colour in flame ( removing impurities)
3) With the clean wire moisten it with hydrochloric acid and dip it in the metal then place it in a Bunsen burner and observe
Name all the colours produce from metals in flame test
Lithium crimson flame
Sodium yellow flame
Calcium orange and red flame
Potassium lilac flame
Copper green flame
Barium light green flame
