Ideal Gases Flashcards
What is an ideal gas?
A gas with molecules that occupy very little space.
Has particles that move elastically and randomly.
Follows the law PV=nrT
What conditions must be furfilled for a gas to be ideal?
The temperature must be greater than the Critical Temperature.
The pressure must be less than the Critical Pressure.
What is a Polytropic Process?
A reversible process that follows the following law.
PVn=Constant
where P = Pressure
V = Volume
n = polytropic index that depends on the nature of the process.
What are the values of the polytropic index for the following types of processes?
Isobaric
Isothermal
Isochoric
Adiabatic
Isobaric - n =0
Isothermal - n =1
Isochoric - n = Infinity
Adiabatic - n = cp/cv
where cp is the coefficient of pressure
and cv is the coefficient of volume
