What is ICZM?
A
Integrated coastal zone management which is a process for planning/coordinating how coastal resources are used/developed.

What is the UK’s ICZM strategy?
A
The Shoreline Management Plan (SMP). There is one for every littoral cell in England/Wales (11 of them).

What are the different SMP policies?
A
-Hold the line - maintain existing and building of new defences.
-Advance the line - build new defences closer to the sea.
-Managed realignment/retreat - natural processes allowed to operate without interference but monitored.
-No active intervention -no building/fixing of defences.
